Spring Creek Elementary School

PTA MESSAGE

It has already been an amazing year at Spring Creek and it only just started! Our PTA has been hard at work, doing some fun things to make sure this year is a great success.

We just had our second annual Spectacular Color Festival. Last year was such a success we had to bring it back. Color festivals traditionally celebrate new beginnings, so it is only fitting that our first event ushers in the upcoming school year at Spring Creek. It was a magical night full of fun food trucks, color throwing, and celebration! We absolutely loved spending the evening with your family, and we hope you all enjoyed yourselves as well.

It takes a village to put a festival like this together, luckily ours is the best! We could not have done it without our volunteers, teachers, and students who worked the month of September to fundraise for their school. The classroom who gathered the most donations this year, earning an ice cream sundae party was Mrs. Martinez’s first grade class. Our top individual earners, will even be taking a limousine ride for lunch at Sizzler. We appreciate all of your support!

PTA provides many enriching opportunities for our students in our school. From the Spectacular to the Christmas Store, Battle of the Books to Science Fair, we wisely use all the money we earn in our limited fundraising to enrich our students’ lives and broaden their school experience. We work hand in hand with our teachers, staff, and principal to make sure our kids get the best education and experience. The Spring Creek Spectacular is an integral part in raising funds to facilitate all of the programs that Spring Creek has to offer our students. We feel that these programs make a difference in our school and we appreciate your support.

We also appreciate all of the volunteers we have. We could not do this without you! Become part of our school PTA! We don’t require a lot of time or money, there are different options for participating and being involved. We understand everyone has different circumstances, and there are plenty of opportunities for things to be done at school or even at home. You are more than welcome to join us at any one of our meetings, ask questions, share your ideas, or listen to our principal, Mrs. Franklin. This is a great way to find out what is going on in our kids school!

PTA/ Parent Involvement meetings are a great opportunity to get an in-depth look at Spring Creek and have questions answered. We’d love to have you. You don’t need to be an official member of PTA to volunteer. Come to our next meeting on October 11th, at 10 a.m. in the library at Spring Creek. Come meet some new people, learn new things, and make a difference in your students’ life. We hope to see you there!

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

BYU Math CirclesMath Circles is an outreach program of the Math Department at Brigham Young University. Its goal is to give students in grades K-12 a chance to learn, explore, and have fun learning about mathematics and its uses. We offer free classes taught by either BYU faculty and/or students. In all there are four classes based on age (see below). These are held most every week on Saturday from 9:00am-9:50am in the Talmage Building (TMCB) on BYU’s campus.

Age Groups and Classes: Grades K-3, Room TMCB 154: Here the goal is to have as much fun as possible learning new types of math. Parents are asked to attend their children for this age group.

Grades 4-6, Room TMCB 173: In this class students have fun learning and explore new math that is aimed towards helping them eventually take the AMC 8 test for those who are interested (see AMC 8,10, 12 section below), although the main goal of the class is to encourage students to enjoy math. Sixth grader can choose either the 4-6 class or the 6-8 class.

Grades 6-8, Room TMCB 197: This class is a more advanced version of the 4-6 class in which students learn and practice math with the main goal of encouraging students to enjoy math. Sixth grader can choose either the 4-6 class or the 6-8 class.

Grades 9-12 TMCB 297: In this class students learn about math topics that are typically introduced in college courses. Those interested also practice math that is aimed at helping them take either the AMC 10 and 12 (see AMC 8,10, 12 section below). Enjoying and having fun with math is still the primary aim.

Dates and Times: (Fall 2019) We meet most every Saturday from 9:00am-10:00am with a few exceptions. The dates we will meet this year are:

  • Sept. 21: Math Circles
  • Sept. 28: Math Circles

NATIONAL LUNCH WEEK OCT 14-18

National School Lunch Week (NSLW) will be celebrated in all schools within Provo City School District on October 14-18.

This annual event is a week where schools celebrate the school lunch program. One of the goals of National School Lunch Week is to show how school cafeterias are serving up favorable menu items while also increasing child choice and customization. The other goal is to promote the importance of a healthy school lunch in a child’s life and demonstrate the impact it has on the child both inside and outside the classroom.

The actual event will only take place the first 3 days of the week since Fall Break begins the fourth day and school will not be in session. The theme this year is “School Lunch: What’s on Your Playlist?” The activities planned for this year are influenced by three musical genres which will be represented on a different day during the week; the 80’s, Disco and Country-Western. The cafeterias in each school will be decorated in each genre and will feature a fun menu, food art, photo booths, contests, prizes and giveaways during lunch.

More information will be coming to each school as the event gets closer.

Please feel free to contact Michelle Spilker with any questions at 801-541-6961 or smlharvey1@gmail.com.

KINDERGARTEN PLAYGROUND INSTALLATION

We are excited for the installation of a new Kindergarten Playground. The installers will start on Monday, September 30th. This is expected to take approximately two weeks. We will need to make the following adjustments for our Kindergarten students.

Morning drop off Kindergarten parents will need to follow school procedures for morning drop off and will not be able to drop their student off at the kindergarten playground. Parents should park in the north parking lot if they want to walk their child into the school. Students need to enter through the front doors. Kindergarten students will be encouraged to go to open art, open gym or open library. Teachers will talk to the kindergarten classes to remind students of the morning choices. Otherwise kindergarten students can sit in the hallway outside their classroom. Supervisors who are normally on the Kindergarten playground will be in the hallway on their designated days helping students find somewhere to go or supervising students sitting near their classroom.

Recess Kindergarten will have morning and afternoon recess on the main playground. All teachers have been notified and will be helping older students play with care near our younger students.

Kindergarten Lunch Recess Lunch recess will be held in the gym. Supervisors who are assigned to the kindergarten playground will be in the gym. Our PE teacher, Mr. Herrmann, will have some equipment available for them to play with. Supervisors will also have other organized games and activities as well.

After School Kindergarten will exit through the north doors rather than their classroom doors. Walkers and students being picked up will be lined up on the grass near the north entrance.

We are sure that there will be needed adjustments during this installation. We will do our best to communicate any changes as they become apparent. Thank you for your patience. We are very excited that we will be able to provide a much better playing experience on our Kindergarten Playground in the very near future.

Sincerely, Mrs. Franklin, Miss Arnesen, Mrs. Reeves, Miss Roundy
