Community Council
School Community Council Information
The School Community Council (SCC) at Spring Creek Elementary is one of several parent groups who work together to support the daily efforts to meet the needs of students, parents, and staff members. The SCC serves a unique purpose in helping to identify the most critical areas of academic needs at the school. They assist the school administration in reviewing student data and in developing goals as part of a larger School Improvement Plan to meet those areas of critical academic needs. These funds are provided by the Utah School Land Trust Program annually to schools, and parents on the SCC have a voice in how these funds are utilized at their neighborhood schools. If you have a desire to be a part of this work, then the SCC is the place for you!
Time Commitment
The SCC meets 6-8 times during the school year for approximately 1 hour. (Exact dates and times will be determined by committee member availability and then posted on the school website.) This is a small time commitment that can have a great impact!
Invitation to Participate
All parents are invited to attend any School Community Council Meeting. Agenda and Minutes are posted to this website. You can also apply for the Spring Creek Elementary School Community Council for the coming school year. Information will be posted to the website in the spring. Members are elected and serve for a two-year term. Members may apply and serve more than one term, but must be re-elected. If you are interested in serving on the Spring Creek SCC or have questions about the SCC, please email Principal Jay Porter.
School Land Trust Program
The School LAND Trust program brings tens of millions of dollars annually to academic programs in public schools across Utah. The funds are generated from school trust lands. These funds are the only discretionary funds many schools receive. The program runs entirely from this web site. Each public school in Utah elects a school community council consisting of parents, teachers, and the principal. Charter Schools have Trust Lands Councils. All councils have a two parent member majority. Each council carefully reviews student assessments and progress to decide which academic areas they want to focus on. Plans are developed to improve student academic performance in the identified academic areas with the annual School LAND Trust funds. The plans are approved by the council, submitted on this website, and approved by the local school board or chartering entity. Other Information: The Utah Legislature has assigned councils responsibilities for school safety and digital citizenship. As with other responsibilities of school community councils, it is intended that administrators, staff, and parents engage together to bring about the best possible result for students.
