Important Information & Dates for Week of October 7th
October 4, 2024
Spring Creek Parents,
Just a reminder to fill out the form that is Linked here: https://forms.gle/rNRecUoAwNfr8DqL7 We are asking parents to identify 3 strengths of their child so that we can focus on those strengths and bring them out in our classrooms. Please do this by Wednesday the 9th. Yesterday we had Superintendent Dau come on a school visit and go into a few classrooms. She was very complimentary of our teachers and the cheerful atmosphere that is in our school:) Our teachers and staff are wonderful and very positive and hopefully you are able to feel that as you come into our school and visit.
I would like to start using this platform to put in a Family talking point of the week. This will be a topic that we might be seeing needing to be addressed as a school or simply something for you to talk to your kids about that they may confront here at school as they interact with others. So, Here is our first one:
Family talking point: Self advocacy: As a student in a classroom of over 20 people it is easy to get lost in the shuffle if a student is not advocating for themselves when they are struggling with a learning concept. The following are questions you may ask to see how your child advocates for themselves in the learning process.
- When you are struggling with learning what do you do?
- Why is it important to let the teacher know when something is difficult for you?
- What can happen if you don’t ask for clarification or help?
- Is it O.K. not to know something? why?
We want to empower students to advocate for themselves in the learning process. We don’t want them to be embarrassed or feel they are not smart. We want them to feel comfortable and safe in the classroom. Our teachers strive to provide that environment where they can ask questions and seek help.
Sincerely,
Jay Porter
Principal, Spring Creek Elementary
