Important Information & Dates for Week of November 25th
November 22, 2024
Spring Creek Parents,
We had a great opportunity this week to go to the Roots of Knowledge stained glass display at UVU this week with our 3rd -6th grades. It was an awesome opportunity for our students to see some magnificent artwork and also make some connections to the story book The Piece That is You. We will be doing a fun art project with this later on as well. Thanks to all of the parents who went and helped us out on this field trip.
I wanted to also give a shout out to our Specialties teachers!! They provide us with Library, Art, Music and P.E. and they do a fantastic job! Mrs. Hopoate does fantastic in getting those kids working learning different skills from dribbling a basketball to swinging a hockey stick. She does a great job keeping students engaged and listening. Mr. Tim is continually striving to instill a love of reading in our students and has a great passion for what he does. Mrs. Gylseth is incredible at teaching students about music and getting even the most uninterested students involved in the action. Miss. Bevans has great skills in taking the student’s love of art and pushing it forward into small beautiful drawings or into elaborate large whole groups of color. Your kids are truly lucky to have such great specialty teachers!!
Family talking point: Advocating for yourself in your learning
We try and teach kids to advocate for themselves in their learning. This means when they do not understand something in class they have to speak up and tell the teacher. It is easy to fall through the cracks in a classroom full of kids.
Possible questions to ask:
– What do you do when you are not understanding the instruction in class?
– What stops you from asking questions in class?
– Why is it important to advocate for yourself?
Thank you,
Jay Porter

Notification Of Annual School Hearing Screening
Hearing is an important part of your student’s ability to learn and progress at school. In accordance with state and federal law, an annual hearing screening is conducted at your student’s school to help identify hearing concerns. Hearing screening this year in the elementary schools includes preschool (if not previously screened), Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades, all students receiving special education services and students who are new to the district. If you would like your student screened and they are not part of one of the groups mentioned, please let your student’s teacher know. This year, your school’s hearing screening is scheduled on: Thursday, December 5th.
The hearing screening is a very simple procedure and will take only a few minutes. If your student does not pass the initial screening, they will be rechecked on a later date and you will be notified if they do not pass the rescreen. If you DO NOT want your student to be screened, please send an email or signed and dated note to your student’s teacher prior to the screening indicating you don’t want them to be screened.
Emergency Drill (Lockdown)
Spring Creek Elementary informs parents prior to the monthly Emergency Drills taking place at the school. On Friday, December 6th, we will be conducting a Lockdown Emergency Drill and will be following the Provo City School District Procedures found on the attached document.

PTA (Parent Involvement)
ROOM PARENT SIGN UP
Want to be of help in your child’s classroom (or any classroom)? It’s a great way to be more involved, and doesn’t require too much time! Sign up here to be a room parent
SANTA SHOP
We are still very much in need of volunteers to help with Santa Shop. Parents who volunteer say this is their favorite PTA event to help out with. Sign up here to help students shop for gifts for family and friends.
Stem Fair
This year our STEM Fair will be held on Thursday, January 23rd, 2025. We are transitioning to a more research-based STEM fair, instead of experimenting like the District has done in the past few years. Only 5th and 6th graders will have the opportunity to participate in our Fair, while the younger grades will have the opportunity to observe them throughout the process! It is always best to start thinking about your project early, especially during holiday breaks! For more information, please visit our STEM Fair website here.
Library/Book Fair
Thank you for a successful book fair! We appreciate your support. It was great to see our students so excited. We earned over $2,000 for books for our school library. These much-needed materials will build our collection and replace some popular books that have been lost or damaged.
