From now through the end of the school year, Spring Creek Elementary will be working on 90% or better attendance!
Please, help us in getting your students here to school. It’s the beginning of our end-of-year testing cycle and every time a student is absent, it can be difficult to make up.
Here Are A Few Facts About Chronic Absenteeism
What Is Chronic Absenteeism?: Chronic absenteeism is when a child misses 10% or more of the school year. This is equivalent to missing 18 days of school regardless of whether they’re excused or unexcused.
Kindergarten Absenteeism: Children chronically absent in kindergarten show lower levels of achievement in math, reading and general knowledge during first grade. In the 2017-2018 school year, 18% of Utah kindergarteners were chronically absent. This past year it was 36% (Reference article)
6th Grade Absenteeism: By 6th grade, chronic absence becomes a leading indicator that a student will drop out of high school.
Reading and Absenteeism: Poor attendance can influence whether children read proficiently by the end of third grade or be held back.
Academics and Absenteeism: When students improve their attendance rates, they improve their academic prospects and chances for graduating.
