Spring Creek Elementary School

For all STEM Fair information, please visit our S.T.E.M. Fair handbook here.

Our STEM Fair is going to look very different this year. This year’s projects will not follow the District guidelines. We will instead be following a more exploratory and research based STEM Fair. Projects will not be sent to the District STEM Fair (unless a student specifically chooses to make a project aligned with their guidelines). We felt that the District guidelines were much too rigorous for an elementary school, so we are switching to a more creative push. These projects are much more flexible! We want students to research a phenomenon and relate it to the STEM core values (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math). Older grades will also be inviting younger grades to come watch students as they work on their projects throughout the winter.

Students will be able to show off their projects in a variety of ways. This includes a slideshow, poster board, video, models, or small (SAFE) demonstrations/model. Our website also has a slideshow template for students to use if they choose that route. Students are still encouraged to use a science journal, although the whole thing doesn’t need to be filled out. The handbook also has the handout that students in 5th and 6th grades should have brought home already. Students will be scored using a rubric and will place 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place accordingly.

Our STEM Fair will occur on Thursday, January 23rd, 2025. Participants will arrive at 5:30 for judging/interviewing. Students should bring their science journals, checklists, and applications to Mrs. Kempter that morning (9:00 AM) so that I can make sure everything is ready. Projects and applications can be submitted prior to Thursday as well.

Everyone will be welcome to participate in our STEM Family Night starting at 6:30 PM. Projects will be displayed and there will be plenty of booth vendors like last year.
