Meeting Start: 10:01 am
Members in attendance: Jay Porter, Brooke Berges, Kimberly Martinez, Lindsey Stockdale, Cristina Bray, Ashley Rayback, Jenny Wright, Nicole Hill, Lochsley Allred
- Call to Order/Introduction: Olivia Goldman (President)
- Principal Update: Principal Jay Porter (Administrative VP)
- Introducing “Is it bullying?” helping kids identify bullying.
- Starting “stop, walk, and talk” empowers them to take care of their problems.
- Looking at the ‘Let me grow experience’ program. So far 1st and 2nd grades are going to start in February. The program is aimed at teaching kids to be more independent and less anxious.
- Wanting to do a kindness wall. Kids can enter kind messages that will be displayed in the lunchroom. Set up will cost about $999,98, including TV purchase, wiring, and TV mounting. The Principal asked if the PTA would want to fund this.
- Ashley moves to discuss the budget amendment for $1000 for TV mounting. Olivia seconded the motion. Three minutes of discussion were allowed.
- Questions and concerns addressed. Several PTA members voiced that it was a good idea.
- Olivia moves to officially amend the budget EDUCATION and INDIVIDUAL DEVELOPMENT category $1000. Lindsey seconds the amendment proposal.
- The proposal to amend the budget will be officially voted on in the February meeting.
- Family Reads has been supplying books in the vending machine. A grant has given about $500 books so far. In the future, PTA may need to help sustain this. Discussed ideas in other grants and foundations that may sustain this.
- Community involvement possible idea as far as supplying it?
- Provo City District Foundation is another possibility.
- The Principal is looking for ideas to make the school more aesthetic. Possible permanent wings for kids to take a picture in front of for “Hawk of the Week” awards.
- Dudes and Donuts will be happening soon. This program is part of the Watch Dogs program, aimed at getting more men involved in schools.
- Teacher VP Report: Pam Foster
- The Christmas store had very positive feedback.
- Community Outreach Report: Kimmy Martinez
- Wizard of Oz for the after-school theater program.
- Production will be in March, the same week as staff appreciation.
- Theater is looking for possible outfit help for the theater performance. Looking at several different options.
- Feedback from the survey that was sent out, enrollment is always hard. This was noted as the biggest challenge in our afterschool program.
- School Board Report: Olivia Goldman (relaying information from Jennifer Partridge)
- Utah Fits All Program-Speaker of the House wants to extend funding.
- No accountability.
- Voucher funds don’t always go to education.
- Focus should be focused on fully funding public education.
- Jennifer has a list of legislatures we should write to. PTA will email this out to members. Members can choose to write to those legislators if they want to.
- February 7th PTA day at the Capitol. Register early and buy a lunch.
- February PTA Meeting Location & Time: Suggesting after school to give working parents a chance to attend (currently scheduled for Friday, February 14)
- Poll to be done via social media to see what days would be best for parents who are more likely to attend an afternoon meeting.

- Upcoming Events/Volunteer Opportunities:
- Room Parent: Scan the first QR code to volunteer to help in a classroom
- School Mascot Update: The mascot has been ordered; it should be ready for pickup on February 6
- Digital Safety Week: January 13-17
- Daily themes
- Dress up days
- Lunchtime activities Help needed for Thursday and Friday-10:55-12:20- Lochsley available Friday, Ashley available Thursday.
- STEM Fair: January 23, 6:30-7:30 pm (only 5th and 6th graders)
- PTA providing prizes for the drawing, as well SWAG bags and ribbon of participation for all participants
- PTA will have a table that night to encourage parents to join, and to ask for volunteers to decorate doors for Staff Appreciation Week
- Needing 4-6 judges for STEM Fair – fill out application (see QR code)
- Needing help buying items for SWAG bags and putting together bags (planning on putting 60 together); we have about $250 to spend, around $4/swag bag- Nicole Hill available to help.
- Kindness Week: February 3-7
- This may need to be changed to 10-14th of February, this will be discussed with social worker.
- PTC Dinner: February 27
- Jenny Wright. She is thinking of doing Olive Garden soup/ salad/ breadsticks. PTA will come up with a dessert and send a sign-up if needed.
- Staff Appreciation Week: March 24-28
- Theme- Voting between the theme of OZ and Jumanji. Voting was unanimous for Oz with one nay noted.

- Open board positions: President, Secretary, and possibly Treasurer
- Needing 3 to serve on the committee (one of which is on the executive committee and chosen by the executive committee)
