Dear Spring Creek Families,
As we navigate the upcoming season, we want to remind you of our school’s guidelines regarding when it’s appropriate to keep your child at home due to illness. Please review the following conditions, and if your child exhibits any of these symptoms, we kindly request that you keep them at home until the specified criteria are met. Please see attached document.
1. Colds/Flu: A person with coughing, sneezing, chills, body discomfort, fatigue, fever, and discharge from the nose and/or eyes should be kept home until the fever is resolved for 48 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medicine) and any yellow or green drainage is resolved.
2. COVID-19: Stay home if testing positive or experiencing symptoms. Return when at least 5 days have passed since symptoms first appeared, with no fever for at least 24 hours, and improvement in other symptoms. Follow your doctor’s guidance.
3. Persistent Cough: A cough lasting longer than 3-4 days, especially if it induces vomiting or produces colored sputum.
4. Diarrheal Diseases: An increase in bowel movements with watery or unformed stools accompanied by nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramping, headache, and/or fever should be resolved for at least 24 hours before returning to school.
5. Pink Eye or Conjunctivitis: Symptoms should be evaluated by a healthcare provider. Return only when symptoms are resolved or treated with a topical antibiotic for at least 24 hours.
6. Open Wounds or Sores: Open or draining wounds should be kept covered with a dressing.
7. Vomiting: Must be free of vomiting for 24 hours before returning to school (72 hours if Norovirus is suspected).
8. Strep Throat or Bacterial Infection: Should be treated with an antibiotic for at least 24 hours and be fever-free for at least 24 hours.
9. Temperature over 100.4: Must be fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medicine before returning to school.
10. Skin Rash: Any skin rash potentially due to infection should be evaluated by a healthcare professional or resolved before returning to school.
11. Pediculosis (Head Lice): If suspected, the school will discreetly check. Follow the provided information about treatment options and steps. Removal from school is usually unnecessary, but restrictions on certain activities may be in place until treated.
These guidelines are subject to change based on health department recommendations. If your child has been ill, the school reserves the right to request a doctor’s release before their return.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in keeping our school community healthy.
Sincerely, Ruth Ann Snow, Principal Erin Hoehne BSN, RN
