Spring Creek Elementary School

Friday, January 24th was Chinese New Year’s Eve. Our 3rd-grade classes invited Mrs. Gao, who is from China, to come and tell them about what the Chinese do for their New Year’s celebration.  She told them of the special foods they eat and the meaning of their traditions.  They learned how to make Chinese lucky knots, a traditional door hanging, and also had a chopsticks competition. Mrs. Gao brought Chinese candy, snacks, and chopsticks for each of the third graders to try.  It was fun for them to learn about the traditions of a very large population of the world.  No matter where Chinese people live, they celebrate the Lunar New Year for the next 15 days.
