Dear Spring Creek Families,
The testing season is upon us and after Spring Break, students in grades 3-6 will begin state summative testing (RISE). We know this can be a stressful time for students and so I wanted to offer some tips to prepare your child for this important testing. Your encouragement and positive attitude coupled with the support of their teachers, will help them demonstrate all of their learning and growth this year.
1. Attendance matters.
Make sure your child is present (if they aren’t sick). The most important indicator to doing well on the test is being present. They’ll get to take the test alongside their peers, which will be a familiar and comfortable environment for them.
2. Keep mornings calm.
Help students by getting them to school on time for breakfast at school, or give them a good breakfast at home. Not feeling rushed in the morning helps with testing jitters and creates calm for students when starting the school day.
3. Best & Rest.
Remind your child that trying their best is all you want. Let them know when they do their best, no matter the outcome, it is going to be one that makes you proud. Remind them that they can preserve and have a growth mindset. Tell them if they are doing their best and being great then that’s all you ask. Helping your student get a good, solid night’s sleep will go a long way in helping them do their best.
Sincerely, Mrs. Snow, Principal

Library ~ Battle of the Books
Since the beginning of January, the 3rd-6th grade students have been participating in a book reading competition called Battle of the Books during their weekly library time. The competition has ended and the top 4 teams of each division (3rd/4th grades and 5tth/6th grades) will be competing in an assembly of these grades in the library THIS WEEK. The winning teams were announced last week in school and a letter sent home to the families of the students on those teams.
The Spring Creek Battle of the Books Final Battles will be held on the following dates:
3rd/4th Grades–Tuesday, March 21st @ 9:15 am in the Library
5th/6th Grades–Thursday, March 23rd @ 10:30 am in the Library
The top team from each division will go on to compete in a district-wide competition held at Provo High School on April 20th. More information to come soon.
The students aren’t the only ones reading for Battle of the Books. Some teachers, Spring Creek staff members and PTA members have also been reading the 5/6 grade books. We will have a friendly competition between the PTA, Spring Creek Staff/Teachers and the Winning 5/6th grade team in an assembly on Friday, March 24th @ 9 am. The 2nd through 6th grades will be invited to the assembly. The winner of this assembly will be presented with a special trophy to display at the school until next year’s battles!

UVU Brain Fair Saturday, April 8th
Please refer to the attached flyer for more information about the event. The fair will provide an opportunity for children of all ages to learn about the brain, neurons, and our senses through various activity stations set up by UVU undergraduate students under psychology faculty mentorship. This is a great opportunity for parents to engage their children in science education and expand their knowledge about the human brain.
Family Reads
Parents, just a reminder that effective now, instead of each family being able to request a free book, we are opening it up to each student! We hope this change will help build your family library at home and encourage reading at home together as a family. Please be sure to submit a request for your free book on our Family Reads form!
If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Blair. ( michellebl@provo.edu)
