Spring Creek Freedom Assembly 2019 Highlights
To conclude our Freedom Week, we held our Freedom Assembly. We sung songs to remember our American Heritage, listened to Benjamin Franklin, watched an ROTC drill, and listened to our own talented students talk about Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.
We would like to thank the BYU Air Force ROTC for their performance as well as Posting the Colors. Their drill impressed our students and their respect for the American Flag acted as an example to Spring Creek. We also would like to thank the Utah Living History Association for bringing Benjamin Franklin himself to teach our students about the Declaration of Independence. Did you know that the Declaration was written on July 2nd? The reason we celebrate Independence Day on July 4th is because the document took all of July 3rd to set the type and print. Once the document was printed, Congress signed the Declaration of Independence on the 4th of July. Mr. Franklin (Utah Living History Association) taught us that.
We are excited to announce that Karolyn Davis won the Freedom’s Light Award. She deserves every bit of recognition for the incredible work she does. We would also like to announce our Freedom Essay contest winners:
- 3rd Place — Samara Hopoate
- 2nd Place — Ane Tuha
- 1st Place — Nora Goodwin
We also want to thank our student speakers for sharing their thoughts on Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness:
- Life — Jackelyn Tapia
- Liberty — Ernesto Segura
- Pursuit of Happiness — Corbin Barnett
