From our School Nurse Parents/Guardians: It is well documented that a child’s ability to see greatly impacts his or her ability to learn. Vision screening plays a vital role in the early identification of visual problems that may negatively affect a child’s academic success. Spring Creek will be holding their vision screening event on Wednesday September 8, 2021. All grades will participate in the screening for distance vision. If your child wears glasses or contacts, please make sure they are wearing them on the day of the screening. If your child does not pass vision screening, they will be rescreened by the school nurse and a referral will be sent to you. If you would like to opt-out of vision screening, please return the attached form to your child’s teacher.

PowerSchool Update/Technology Use Agreement All parents are required to update their family information in PowerSchool As part of this process parents are asked to review the District Technology Use Policy. Students are not able to use their ChromeBooks until parents have completed this process. Teachers are in the process of training students on how to use the ChromeBooks and access academic programs. It is crucial that you complete the policy review. Any student whose parent has not completed this process by Sept. 7th will not be able to use their ChromeBook. Your immediate attention to this is greatly appreciated. Please use the following instructions to complete your information review and update in PowerSchool.

Go to https://grades.provo.edu and log in to your parent account. If you do not know your username and/or password please call the school office at 801-370-4650 and someone will reset the password for you. After you are logged in, from the blue menu bar select your child’s name. After their information loads, click the Student Registration/Yearly Update icon located in the left menu bar at the top. Click the Registration link next to your students name and follow the instructions on the School Forms pages. You will need to do this for each student enrolled in the Provo School District.

We Need Your Help ALL Provo School District students can eat breakfast and lunch at no charge this year. However, we are still asking eligible families to complete a Free / Reduced Meals Application. Other programs rely on free / reduced information for funding, staffing, and services provided to students. If you think you may qualify, you can get an application at the school and district offices. You can also apply online at https://www.myschoolapps.com/ All families that complete an application will be entered into a drawing for a $25 Amazon Gift Card. We will be drawing out 2 families on September 10th.

SEL Survey Over the last few years, Spring Creek Elementary has conducted surveys measuring the Social and Emotional competencies of the students. These surveys measure grit, growth mindset, self efficacy, self awareness, and self management. The results of these surveys help guide administration in setting goals and implementing new strategies to meet the needs of our students.

This survey is OPTIONAL and if you would not like your student to participate, please let us know. Surveys will be completed during class between September 13th – September 24th. Please read the Spring Creek – SEL Family Opt-Out Letter. Eng_Spa docx for more information.

SAFE UT APP Mr. Telford presented the following information about the SAFE UT app in our 5th and 6th grade classrooms. The SAFE UT app can be used for immediate crisis help, or to submit a non-emergency tip to your school. We discussed with the students that the SAFE UT app is a great tool and resource to use only if you are not able to get help from a trusted adult. We encourage our students to first seek help from their parents or guardians, or if they are at school, to speak with their teachers.

Personal Space in School In an effort to be proactive in keeping our younger students safe at school, our school social worker, Mr. Telford, went into all Kindergarten through 3rd grade classrooms and talked to the students about personal space and boundaries. Along with other important topics, we covered three main rules:

Be aware of your personal space Keep your hands and feet to yourself Always ask before you touch (ask before giving a high five or a hug) We also reminded students that they should talk to their parents if anyone ever made them feel bad or uncomfortable in any way. We hope this presentation will help keep all of our students safe while at school.
